Business and Management Education through Learning Technologies

Learning technologies are currently being used in many business schools as media for transforming and innovating management education. The purpose of this paper is to design a conceptual framework for matching learning outputs with appropriate learning technologies. Four learning outputs are identified – knowledge, interpersonal skills, virtues and capabilities– and six categories of learning technologies – presentation technologies, delivery applications, Web resources, Web courses, asynchronous interaction applications and synchronous interaction applications. Presentation technologies and delivery applications can be used to convey knowledge and theoretical aspects of interpersonal skills and values and virtues. Web resources can be used for gathering knowledge. Web-based courses can be suitable for developing any kind of learning output, but it development sometimes is complex. Asynchronous interaction applications can help to develop interpersonal skills and capabilities, but their usefulness is not yet clear, as there have not been enough empirical studies of how technologies can support learning in the higherorder cognitive and affective domains. Synchronous interaction applications can be suitable for developing any kind of learning output, but technological constraints make this complex.
